The school community of St. Bernard Academy is a wonderfully diverse collection of families that truly represents the many cultures of Nashville. Sitting in the shadow of Vanderbilt University within the historic Hillsboro Village neighborhood, St. Bernard Academy boasts of a colorful history that began with the Sisters of Mercy in 1866. The school has been transformed from an all girls high school and ungraded academy in the 1980’s to the model of academic excellence you will find today.
Students have the option of two levels of academic work. They are able to work on grade level or they may earn their way into the accelerated path. St. Bernard Academy understands and recognizes the uniqueness of each child while striving to meet the academic needs of the individual.
SBA, a Catholic independent school, is a member of the Independent Schools of Nashville (ISNA), the Tennessee Association of Independent schools (TAIS) as well as the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). St. Bernard Academy has achieved dual accreditation with the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). It has membership status in National Catholic Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development as well as several other associations.
In keeping with our Catholic roots, students are educated in a nurturing environment where we believe that the development of the whole child is the key to their future success. The Catholic faith is integrated daily and students learn that service to others is an important part of their daily prayer life.
